The World Handball Junior Championship under 19 years, which Egypt hosted, witnessed historical moments that will remain stuck in the memory of the fans of the game, after the last version broke record numbers at the level of public attendance and score goals, and reaffirmed the escalating handball gravity globally, and the pivotal role that Egypt plays in developing this sport at the level of the Sunni groups.

A historical moment in the quarter -finals
In an unprecedented scene, the lounges covered with 2,2150 spectators were filled during the quarter -finals between Egypt and Spain, at the highest public presence of a junior match in the history of the world handball championships. Although the Egyptian team lost 31-29, the enthusiastic atmosphere that prevailed in the meeting emphasized the extent of the culture of handball in Egypt, and the extent of the development that the game has witnessed there in recent years.
This huge attendance was no exception. The tournament witnessed 7 games in the presence of more than 3000 spectators, which reflects the increasing popularity of the game at the level of age groups, and gives a clear indication of its promising future.

The tournament also witnessed 21 games in which the outcome of the goals exceeded 70 goals, including the historical final between Spain and Germany, which ended with a score of 41-40 after resorting to penalty shootouts, in a match described as “the final of generations”, due to the 80-minute excitement it witnessed.

The final match between the teams of Spain and Germany came as a dramatic conclusion of the championship, and ended with Germany’s penalty shootout, after the two teams tied 36-36 in the original and additional time. The match witnessed sharp fluctuations in performance, and an exciting exchange of progress, in a match that may be one of the greatest junior championships ever.
Individual brilliance … and Nazic leads the scene
Although Slovenia finished the tournament in the thirteenth place, its young star Eligosh Anzic grabbed attention, after he crowned the top scorer for the tournament with 67 goals in only seven games, beating his teammate May Margoch (65 goals), to hold the first and second places in the list of scorers.
Anzic, only 17 years old, was chosen in the ideal squad for the tournament as the best left back, and scored a historic record with 23 goals in one match against Norway, to confirm that he is a strong emerging talent on the international scene.
