The head of the tax evasion unit at the Prosecution of Financial Crime and Money Laundering stated that the second minor criminal court issued its ruling in the incident of an attempt to smuggle the banned Tambak material to the Kingdom of Bahrain, where it sentenced the first accused of Gulf citizenship to be imprisoned for a period of three years and fined sixty thousand Bahraini dinars, and the imprisonment of the second accused of Asian nationality for a period of six months, with the confiscation of the goods and the tank used in the smuggling process.
The details of the incident are due to the Public Prosecution received a notification from the Customs Affairs of the Ministry of Interior, stating that a shipment containing four tons of the prohibited Tambak material was hidden in a technical way inside a tank, in an attempt to enter it into the country through the marine port.
The tax evasion unit began its investigations as soon as the report was received, as it listened to the exact statements of the existing customs officer, examined the seized materials, and the experts specialized in laboratory examination, and it turned out that it contains the banned Tambak material.
The prosecution also listened to the statements of the customs Savior and the employees of the clearance and shipping companies concerned, as it was proven through the investigations that the second accused in agreement with the first suspect change the name of the importer and the registration of the shipment in the name of the institution in which the second defendant works in customs documents, and to provide false data with the intention of passing the shipment and exceeding the provisions of prevention and restriction, as the first defendant is not entitled to import it.
Based on the findings of the investigations, the Public Prosecution issued an order to arrest and bring the first suspect, and the second accused, who was admitted to the accusations attributed to him. Accordingly, the case was referred to the competent criminal court, which issued its advanced ruling.
