The German Foreign Intelligence Agency (BND) is seeking to attract young cadres to work as spies, by promoting the profession in an unconventional way through an innovative digital game.

Launching the game at the “Jameskum” international exhibition

At the “Jameskum” exhibition in Cologne, the largest international computer exhibition, the agency presented its new game entitled “German intelligence myths – the black box operation”, where visitors were allowed to try it in the agency’s ward.

Adventure in a fictional country

The game takes place in a fictitious country called “Betolan”, which has developed a harmful program that threatens the world. The heroine, a spy, is sent on a secret mission to obtain sensitive information and avoid an imminent disaster. The player leads the game champion inside a military complex for the enemy, avoiding drones, relying on focus and memory to save symbols and codes to open doors and complete tasks.

Between game and reality

Although failure in the game allows the participant to try again without consequences, the agency indicates that the reality is very different; In real tasks, there is no room for re -attempt. The heroine is accompanied by an electronic piracy and a geographical specialist.

The agency’s goals from the game

According to the agency, the game aims to give the players a glimpse of the nature of its work. Although it is not available for home download currently, there are plans to put it on a gaming platform in the near future.

A way to employ young competencies

The agency spokeswoman, Yulia Lynar, stressed that the aim of this initiative is to attract young talents, saying: “We are looking like any other employer for skilled employees, and the game is an effective tool to achieve this.”

The agency is in numbers

The German Intelligence Agency operates about 6,500 employees, including about 4000 at the headquarters in Berlin, 1000 in Blakh, and 1500 distributors in other locations inside and outside Germany. The agency confirms that it is armed for special skills employees.

An invitation to apply for work

Linner stressed that the belief that employment in the agency is only through secret recruitment is a wrong perception, stressing that individuals can apply directly with requests to join the intelligence.
