The American Cancer Society has announced the launch of a new interactive electronic tool, aimed at helping doctors and health professionals in the United States to develop strategies dedicated to lowering lung cancer deaths and enhancing early detection and treatment opportunities.
The tool, known as the “Planning tool for State levels”, was developed within the “National Round Cancer Cancer” initiative that was established in 2017, and includes more than 200 entities from the public and private sectors, in addition to non -profit organizations, research centers and government agencies, with the aim of uniting efforts to combat the disease.
The tool provides resource plans designed according to the needs of each state or region, based on factors such as the volume of financing, health policies, the extent of the involvement of medical service providers, and the community’s vision towards the disease.
It has been developed through field meetings, interviews and tests of use, with a regular review of the content and site design, and taking into account users’ observations.
The projectists assert that one of its main axes is to ensure equality in obtaining services, avoiding the concentration of interventions in areas with larger resources and neglecting disadvantaged societies, in a way that limits geographical, demographic and cultural gaps in the results of lung cancer.
“Our goal is to provide local leaders and health professionals with tools that enable them to design effective and dedicated programs to control lung cancer in their societies,” said Robert Smith.
According to the World Health Organization, lung cancer causes more than 1.8 million people annually around the world, to remain the most deadly types of cancer, despite the availability of early examination techniques such as low -dose tomography. Studies indicate that the examination rates are still low even in developed countries, due to a lack of awareness, economic obstacles, and the imbalance of resources distribution.
The researchers believe that the new tool may represent a qualitative shift in the efforts to combat lung cancer, by combining accurate data and allocated field planning, with a focus on health justice, which may contribute to raising early examination rates and reducing deaths related to the disease globally.
