The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Affairs of Egyptians abroad handed over the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities a set of Egyptian artifacts recovered from the United Kingdom and Germany.
The number of artifacts recovered from London reached 10 pieces, dating back to different eras of ancient Egyptian civilization. The pieces included a funerary plate of limestone from the modern state, a small amulet, part of a bronze crown, a funerary mask of beads, and a number of funerary amulets of black stone.
As for the pieces recovered from Germany, they numbered 3 pieces, namely: a skull, a hand from ancient mummy, and a tummy that is the symbol of life in ancient Egyptian civilization.
The artifacts from the United Kingdom were recovered after being seized and confiscated by the British authorities, represented by the London Police. This came after its exit from Egypt was proven through an international network specialized in smuggling antiquities.
With regard to the recovered pieces from Germany, the Egyptian embassy in Berlin received a notification from the authorities of the city of Hamburg, expressing its desire to return a number of artifacts preserved in the city museum, after making sure that it leaves Egypt illegally.
This comes within the framework of a comprehensive strategy adopted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to restore the archaeological and artistic heritage of its legitimate exit from the country. This matter is subject to the Egyptian Antiquities Protection Law, and the international agreements related to prohibiting, preventing importing, exporting and transferring cultural property in illegal ways.
