Inside the corridors of the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Yunis, the last main hospital in the southern Gaza Strip, the American-Palestinian nurse, Amanda Nasser, is standing amid the flow of martyrs and wounded, telling an aspect of the humanitarian catastrophe that the sector is experiencing under the Israeli genocide that has been going on for nearly two years.

Nasser, 39, who arrived in Gaza a week ago on a humanitarian mission, describes her experience with Anatolia as “very influential”, noting that the health system “is about to collapse.”

She said: “The medical capabilities are very limited, and the medical teams live under tremendous pressure and permanent fear of continuous Israeli raids.”

She adds that the majority of the injured who reach the hospital are “dangerous and terrible”, including gunshots in the head, chest and abdomen, as well as fractures and amputations. Also, the majority of the injured are young and adolescents who “rarely escape due to the seriousness of their injuries.”

Because of the lack of cadres and supplies, doctors are forced to make “very decisive and difficult” decisions, such as choosing who deserves to obtain an industrial breathing device.

What exacerbates the scene, according to Nasser, that systematic starvation is no longer confined to patients alone, but rather the medical staff herself, as she explained that “malnutrition is apparent to everyone, even doctors and nurses. They are very humiliating, suffering drought and do several hours without comfort.”

The Ministry of Health in Gaza, since the beginning of 2025, has registered about 28,000 cases of malnutrition, of which 251 were martyred, including 108 children.

Nasser says she saw infants losing their lives due to lack of food.

And she confirms that she is proud to be Palestinian in origin, and she was able to serve her people in Gaza, adding: “I found myself between a generous people despite the wounds and the displacement, I felt safe with them, whether inside the walls of the hospital or outside it.”

She sent a message to the world calling for an immediate ceasefire and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, stressing that the Palestinians “only want a normal life, but they are treated in the most heinous way.”

It also called on US President Donald Trump to visit Gaza to “witness the tragedy himself”, and urged journalists to “continue the conversion of the truth” and the people to “boycott Israeli and Western products that funded genocide.”

Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli genocide war on Gaza left 61,897 martyrs, 155 thousand and 660 wounded, most of them women and children, along with more than 9,000 missing and hundreds of thousands of displaced people.

Until last Monday, Israel killed about 18,430 children, 9 thousand and 300 women, of whom 8 thousand and 505 mothers, according to the data of the Ministry of Health in Gaza.
