A new experimental study found that the implant that is planted under the scalp can improve a person’s epilepsy monitoring, giving doctors the data they need to improve seizures, according to UPI.
A study recommends the cultivation of the scalp to track epilepsy
The new study included the transplantation of the device in 10 British adults with treatment -resistant epilepsy, and they tracked their brains for 15 months. Participants also kept notes for their seizures and recorded their health condition using a wearable physical fitness tracking device.
The researchers said, these data are necessary to determine the medicines that patients need to control their seizures. About a third of those with epilepsy persists in suffering from persistent seizures, despite the prescription of anti -epilepsy drugs.
In this study, the researchers tested an artificial intelligence electrical planning device, which can track brain wave data. The size of the device is almost the size of the sterling pound.
The researchers added, a plant that is placed under the scalp behind the ear, and is associated with a small wire that leads to the place where the seizures are expected to start in the patient’s brain, and the implant communicates wirelessly with an external recorder that collects brain wave data.
The researchers found that the participants properly recorded only 48% of their seizures, when comparing their notes with the collected brain data, and in addition, the researchers said that about a quarter (27%) of the episodes they recorded in their notes were not related to actual seizures.
