An initial clinical trial revealed encouraging results of a experimental vaccine against cancer known as ELI -002 2p, which may open the door to a revolutionary method of preventing return TumorEspecially pancreatic, colon and rectum cancers.

The study led by the Johnsen Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of California in Los Angeles, included 25 patients who underwent surgery to remove tumors, these patients were at a high risk of the reaction of the disease due to the survival of the effects of the cancerous DNA after the operation, and the study was published in Nature Medicine magazine.

High levels of immune response

The results showed that 21 out of 25 patients formed immune cells for KRAS, which is the gene responsible for more than 90% of pancreatic cancer cases and about half of the cases of colon and rectum cancer.

Patients who achieved a strong immune response remained longer without a setback, and some of them remained empty of the disease for nearly 20 months.

The vaccine also showed that he is able to remove all vital indicators of the disease in 3 pancreatic cancer patients and 3 others with colon cancer.

Effectiveness against multiple mutations

Besides targeting KRAS mutations, 67% of patients showed an immune response against other tumors -related mutations, indicating the ability of the vaccine to stimulate wider immunotherapy.

The vaccine is characterized by standard manufactured and does not need a special design for every patient, unlike some personal immune treatments.

The main researcher in the study, Dr. Zeef Winberg, explained that the results “are an important progress for patients paid with KRAS mutations, especially pancreatic cancer known for high repetition rates after traditional treatment.

He added: Patients who have developed a strong immune response have remained in the disease for much longer periods than expected, which opens the door to a new generation of anti -cancer vaccines.
