Hunger raises Gaza and the famine is approaching
Gaza is witnessing an unprecedented food crisis with the aggravation of the blockade imposed since March 2025, amid a major deficit in the introduction of humanitarian aid. According to the latest data for food security classification (IPC), about 470,000 people have entered the full starvation stage (IPC 5), while approximately one and a half million people suffer from dangerous nutritional emergencies (IPC 4).
UN reports revealed that more than 71 thousand children and 17 thousand mother are exposed to severe malnutrition and life -threatening diseases, in light of the almost complete collapse of the health sector and lack of treatment opportunities.
For its part, international agencies such as UNICEF and the World Food Program launched urgent appeals to move, stressing that “people are starving while food is held on the crossings.”
The World Health Organization report also indicated that three quarters of Gaza population are already in a critical or catastrophic food situation, even without the official announcement of starvation. This tragic reality imposes the necessity of urgent international action, by opening humanitarian crossings, expanding relief operations, ensuring food, water and medical care, away from any political considerations.
