Bodhanna Sevanandan, 10 -year -old, has become the youngest chess player in history defeating a Grand Master level, the highest classification that any chess player can get. This achievement came during the final round of the British Chess Championship held in Liverpool, England, according to the International Chess Federation.

Bodana defeats Grand Master Mashter

Sevanandan, from the London region, managed to beat the 60 -year -old Grand Master Peter Wells to achieve this historic achievement. The International Chess Federation published on social media that Bodana recorded this victory at the age of 10 years, 5 months and 3 days, bypassing the previous record for 2019, which was in the possession of American Karissa Yip (10 years, 11 months and 20 days).

Current and promising future title

Sevanandan has yet to win the Grand Master title herself, as the International Chess Federation stipulates that a series of standards before the title is given. Currently, Bodana holds the title of “International Women’s Teacher”, which is the second highest classification of females after the Grand Master title. Bodana told the BBC that she started playing during the Kofid-19 pandemic, when it was only five years old.

Experts appreciate her talent

Malcolm Ben, an international chess teacher, said that Sevanandan paves the way in a traditional field dominated by men. He added: “She is balanced and modest, but she is great in chess. She can easily become the world’s heroine, and perhaps the world champion in general, and I think she is on her way to become Grand Master.”

Other record numbers for children in chess

Last December, a 8 -year -old child became the youngest player ever defeating Grand Master in Switzerland. The child, Kushik, beat Jack Stop, 37, to replace another young woman who had achieved the same achievement a week ago. That child, Leonid Ivanovich of Serbia, was a little older than Kushik at the age of 8 and 11 months.
