Zahra Khalifa: The wave of heat and humidity raises the risk of food poisoning

And Dr. Zahra Khalifa that food poisoning is transmitted through contaminated food, and is one of the most prominent causes of bacteria, viruses, parasites or toxins, noting that eating outside the home, or even in homes without taking into account the criteria of hygiene, exposes individuals at risk of symptoms such as stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, and may develop into serious complications.

She added that pollution may occur in several stages that start from the source of the food, through transportation and storage, all the way to cooking or leaving it exposed, pointing out that the use of poor oils, or the presence of people carrying microbes among the workers in the processes of preparing and distributing food increases the risk of infection. She warned that some foods such as raw meat, unpasteurized dairy products, raw eggs, and seafood It is classified as “high -risk foods”, if they are not dealt with properly. She also indicated that the most prominent types of bacteria that cause poisoning include salmonella, lestia, and clusterococcus.

And called Dr. Zahra Khalifa to the importance of adhering to the guidelines of prevention, including: personal hygiene, washing hands, separating raw and cooked meat, ensuring the temperature of the refrigerator, not consuming food stored for more than two days, and cooking at appropriate temperatures.

She concluded by saying that most cases of food poisoning go away within days with comfort and a lot of fluid drinking, but some cases, especially among children and the elderly and those with immune deficiency, may require immediate medical intervention or hospitalization.
