At the airport, a few days ago, I watched a scene suitable to be a sarcastic announcement of “love in the time of social media.” A wife wears the finest brands, takes pictures one by one with a deliberate smile, while her husband sits next to her as a neglected piece of furniture in the waiting hall.
She was talking about the journey with enthusiasm that he would miss only soundtrack, but he was reviewing his phone bored as if he was in a boring work meeting. No one was … except a picture that will be published soon entitled “The Best Summer in Our Life”.
The money is able to reserve a vacation in the most beautiful resort, but what is the benefit of a wing overlooking the sea if the heart is tightly closed? It can buy you first -class tickets, but it does not guarantee you a first -class dialogue. How many expensive travel pictures of two couples smile in front of phone cameras as if they were lovers, while the maximum real communication between them is to agree on any filter that fits the image!
The funniest – perhaps the most ridiculous – is that some couples treat travel as if it is an emergency ambulance of the relationship. They think that changing the country will change their feelings, and that flying away from home will expel the differences. But the truth is that the problems you are trying to escape from it does not need a visa to join you, as it arrives with you to the hotel before the bags arrive.
The money may buy a temporary silence between you, but it does not buy a real desire to stay together. Some couples fill their tourism programs until the last minute, as if they were fleeing to sit face to face. They visit tourist places, take pictures, laugh in front of others, but when they return to the room … everything returns as it was: cold silence and courtesy smiles.
True love does not need travel tickets. A spontaneous conversation needs longer than the menu, and a honest laugh you are not afraid to be outside the staff. Money may give you video memories, but it will not give you a real story that you live without an audience.
Frankly, a successful marriage remains like rare things: it is not bought, nor is it measured by the weight of gold or the number of seals in the passport. Money opens the doors for you .. but it does not guarantee that you will find a heart behind it.
