Psoriasis is a chronic skin disease that is not contagious from an immune disorder that leads to an abnormal acceleration in the growth of skin cells, which causes their accumulation on the surface of the skin in the form of red spots covered with white or silver scales, which is one of the types of autoimmune diseases, where the immune system attacks healthy skin cells by mistake, which causes infections and rapid reproduction of the skin cells.

Causes of psoriasis

The exact cause of psoriasis is unknown, but it is believed to be associated with an abnormal interaction in the immune system (specifically T-Cells) with genetic and environmental factors, as the presence of a family history of the family increases the chances of their occurrence.

In addition to a number of reasons, among them: infection such as sore throat with streptococcus, psychological stress, skin injuries as a kwenner phenomenon, and taking some medications such as lithium, blood pressure medications (beta blockers), antibiotics, smoking as well as obesity.

Symptoms and how to diagnose psoriasis

Symptoms of psoriasis appear when red skin stains are high from the surface of the skin (plaques), and they often appear on the scalp, knees, elbows, lower back, may be painful or troublesome when friction.

In addition to the appearance of silver or white peels covering skin spots, resulting from the accumulation of dead skin cells, the scales may exfoliate automatically or when itching, with severe or medium itching, especially in cases of wavy or dotted psoriasis, in addition to dry skin and cracks that may lead to mild bleeding, especially in cracked areas.

Psoriasis type symptom

Plasmatic psoriasis is the most common species (80-90% of cases):

Ways to treat psoriasis

At the forefront of psoriasis treats topical treatments such as: topical steroids (corticosteroids), medical tar, refreshments and exfoliators (such as salicylic acid), along with light therapy through UVB or PUVA (with Sorraline).

In addition to systemic treatments such as metotoxate, cyclosporine, retinoids (such as acitritin), and biological treatments, which are directed drugs that inhibit certain proteins in the immune system.

To prevent psoriasis, it is necessary to maintain a healthy weight, quit smoking, reduce psychological stress, adhere to the treatment plan and periodic follow -up with the doctor.
