Communications regarding the re -launch of the nuclear negotiations between the United States and Iran are still in place, after the date of a meeting was postponed in Oslo in the coming days, between the special envoy Steve Witkeov and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqji.
Some believe that the main “knot” behind this trail is due to the condition set by US President Donald Trump to conclude any agreement.
Although he expressed his desire to conclude a new nuclear agreement with Iran, stopping uranium enrichment on Iranian territory is one of the main American demands, which he adheres to if negotiations in the coming days and weeks.
The Wall Street Journal quoted US and Israeli officials as saying that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told President Trump at a special meeting during his visit to Washington that Israel would strike Iran if it resumes its nuclear program.
Israeli and American strikes were severely damaged by Iranian nuclear facilities, but they did not destroy all of the highly enriched Iranian uranium. It is unclear whether any of the Iranian centrifuges have survived the destruction.
Washington and Tel Aviv are threatening to attack Iran if it decides to resume a return to its nuclear program or an attempt to repair and restore the facilities that were beaten.
Iran again
According to “Wall Street Journal”, Netanyahu has informed President Trump that Israel would strike Iran if it resumes its program. She added that Trump did not object to Netanyahu’s plan, but he told him that he preferred negotiations, despite the conviction of Israeli officials that Trump would eventually give them the green light to attack Iran again.
The newspaper stated that during their meeting at the White House, last Monday, Trump told Netanyahu that he hoped that there will be no other American strikes against Iran, adding: “I cannot imagine that I want to do so.”
However, in a special conversation, Netanyahu Trump informed that if Iran has resumed its steps towards having a nuclear weapon, Israel will carry out additional military attacks, and Trump has responded that he preferred a diplomatic settlement with Tehran, but he did not show opposition to the Israel plan.
The newspaper quoted an unnamed Israeli official as saying that Israel will not necessarily seek to obtain explicit American approval to strike Iran. He added that the extent of Trump’s pressure on Netanyahu to maintain a diplomatic path with Tehran depends on Iran’s seriousness in resuming its nuclear program.
The Israeli official continued: “Iran will not be able to restore uranium from the facilities of Natanz and Fordo, due to the extent of the destruction that caused them.”
Before the recent strikes, Israel estimated that Iran could produce a primitive nuclear device within months, and an effective nuclear weapon within one year. Senior Israeli officials have stated that the American and Israeli military strikes had delayed Tehran’s ability to produce a nuclear weapon for an additional two years, which is compatible with a recent evaluation of the Pentagon.
Uranium enrichment
As for the Iranian leadership, the risks are much greater, according to the newspaper. If Tehran rejects Trump’s demand to abandon uranium enrichment and resume its nuclear activities, Israeli or even renewable American attacks may lead to a greater existential threat, according to the newspaper.
The newspaper reported that Iranian President Masoud Pzshkian, like all other senior Iranian leaders, recently stated that Tehran is open to resuming nuclear talks with the United States, provided that guarantees are offered not to launch new attacks during the negotiating period, stressing that Iran will insist on what it considers its right to enrich uranium.
