US President Donald Trump said that the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip is “very difficult,” noting that the residents of the Strip “suffer from hunger”, calling for a broader international move to provide aid.
Trump confirmed, at a press conference with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Line, today, Sunday, that the United States provided humanitarian aid to Gaza worth $ 60 million during the past week, adding: “We have not seen any thanks for what we have provided.”
He pointed out that “America is seeking to return the hostages from Gaza,” explaining that this file has a priority upon its administration, while stressed the need for “Israel to make a clear decision regarding the future of Gaza,” saying: “I do not know what may happen there.”
The US President announced that he would speak with British Prime Minister Kiir Starmer on the situation in Gaza, calling for “the participation of other countries in humanitarian relief efforts”, amid the exacerbation of the suffering of the population in the besieged sector.
“Disadvantine and must end”
It is noteworthy that the American newspaper “Washington Post” reported that Trump expressed his extreme annoyance after reviewing pictures showing the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, describing the situation there as “catastrophic and must end,” according to the newspaper quoted the White House official.
According to the same source, Trump directed his advisor and the special envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkev, to work to find an “innovative solution” for the food aid program in Gaza, in light of the complexities of international aid.
A senior White House official pointed out that the new initiative is centered on the “Global Relief Fund”, a project supported by the United States and Israel, which is presented as an alternative to the United Nations aid program, which Tel Aviv accuses of mismanagement and affected by Hamas interventions.
Although Trump has not made public statements in the recent period over Gaza, the newspaper confirmed that he was aware of the seriousness of the humanitarian crisis, which began to be reflected in his political orientations, similar to what happened previously in his position on the war in Ukraine.
