A research study issued by the Trends Center for Research and Consulting showed that water desalination is a vital tool to face the crisis of the watership scarcity around the world, but at the same time imposes serious environmental and economic challenges that must be addressed to ensure the sustainability of this technology in the long term. According to the study, prepared by the Center’s Economic Studies Department under the title “The Future of Water Desalination: Between Funding and Climate Challenges”, the world faces an expected deficit in water by 40% by 2030, and although 70% of the surface of the earth is covered with water, only 0.5% of them are available and drinking.
