The main observatory of food security in the world announced on Tuesday that the “worst famine scenario is now happening” in the besieged and devastating Gaza Strip due to the 21 -month war between Israel and Hamas.

Earlier, the United Nations World Food Program announced on Friday that about a third of the population of the Gaza Strip does not eat for days, warning that malnutrition is increasing sharply.
The program stated in a statement that “the food crisis in Gaza has reached levels of despair unprecedented, and no one of every 3 days is eaten, as worsened, and more than 90,000 women and children are in urgent need of treatment,” quoting “France Press”.
He added that it is expected that 470,000 Palestinians will face a “catastrophic famine” in the besieged sector in the coming months.
The World Food Program warned that there are “people who die due to the lack of humanitarian aid,” noting that “food aid is the only way for the population to get food after food prices have reached record levels.”
In addition, the Secretary -General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, denounced, on Friday, the absence of “humanity” and “sympathy” with the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, which is not only suffering from a humanitarian crisis, but “an ethical crisis that is a challenge to the global conscience.”
“I cannot explain the extent of indifference and inaction that we see from many in the international community, the lack of sympathy … and humanity.”
He added: “This is not just a humanitarian crisis, but rather an ethical crisis that is a challenge to the global conscience. We will continue to raise the voice at every opportunity.”
Relief organizations had warned of the high number of children suffering from acute malnutrition in the Gaza Strip, which Israel tightened siege and prevented the introduction of aid to it in March amid its war with Hamas. This siege was slightly reduced after two months.
And that is, the aid that enters the sector has become under the control of the “Gaza Humanitarian Foundation” backed by Israel and the United States, to replace the United Nations distribution system.
The relief organizations and the United Nations refused to work with this institution, accusing them of harmonizing the Israeli military targets.
Guterres said: “From the beginning, it repeatedly condemned the terrible attack,” which was launched by Hamas on October 7, 2023 on Israel and which ignited the war, but nothing can justify the high number of deaths and destruction since then, their size and scope exceeds anything we have seen in our modern era. “
He continued: “Children talk about their desire to go to heaven because they say that there is at least food there. We make video calls with our workers who are starving in front of our eyes, but the words do not satisfy the hungry children.”
Guterres also condemned the killing of more than a thousand Palestinians while trying to obtain food aid since May 27, when the Gaza Foundation began its operations.
He commented: “We need to move: an immediate and lasting shooting stop, the immediate and unconditional release of all the prisoners, and the immediate arrival of relief and without obstacle.”
He added that the United Nations is ready to “significantly increase humanitarian operations” in Gaza if Israel and Hamas reach a ceasefire agreement.
