The Library of Alexandria has officially launched the translated version in the sign language of its innovative documentary series “Know … Your Future” under the slogan we are proud of our heritage.

Alexandria International Book Library Exhibition

This came on the sidelines of the activities of the twentieth session of the Alexandria International Book Library.

During his opening speech, Dr. Ayman Suleiman, Director of the Center for Documentation of Civil and Natural Heritage of the Cultural Communication Sector at the Library of Alexandria, confirmed that this initiative reflects the firm belief of the Library of Alexandria that culture and learning are a right for all groups of society.

He added: Knowing our origin is the compass that illuminates our present and looks at our future, and the release of a sign of sign language is a confirmation that the message of the Egyptian culture must reach every member of the country, especially those with determination, in a language they understand and interact with.

For its part, Amira Siddiq, a project manager at the Cultural and Natural Heritage Documentation Center, reviewed the “Aref” digital platform produced by the Center for Documentation of Civil and Natural Heritage to follow the library’s cultural communication sector (Cultnat), and the show included a bunch of films that take the viewer on a journey through time, from participatory games in ancient Egypt and commercial trips to the country of Pont, through exploring Alexandria as a capital For a medium culture, up to interesting stories of natural heritage, such as the journey of the first giraffe Muhammad Ali Pasha to Europe.

This step comes as a culmination of the continuous efforts of the Library of Alexandria to make knowledge available to all. After the series is available in Arabic, English and French, the version of the sign language comes to break the barriers of silence, and to open the doors of knowledge and the ancient Egyptian heritage in front of the deaf community and the hearing, stressing the right of everyone to reach their culture and identity.
