Adolfo Massias, the leader of the most dangerous drug gang in Ecuador, agreed to hand him over to the United States to confront accusations of smuggling cocaine and weapons.
Masas, known as “Veto”, was arrested in June after escaping from a very guarded prison last year in an escape operation that caused a large wave of violence.
The United States is calling for Masas, who leads the Los Shuniros gang to be tried on several charges, including the distribution of cocaine, conspiracy, and firearm smuggling.
The former taxi driver, who turned into a leader of the most dangerous gang, is the most prominent wanted by the Ecuadorian security services since the beginning of last year, after he escaped from the Guaayahakil prison in the southwest of the country.
The government of President Daniel Nuboa at the time offered one million dollars to those who provide information to arrest him, and was distributed posters bearing his image and the word “required”.
The members of the “Los Shuniros” gang resorted to severe violence to respond to the government, using car bombs, detaining gunmen of hostage, and seizing a television station during a live broadcast.
After months of chasing, Veto was re -arrested in a large -scale military operation, in which no one bullet was fired.
It was found in an underground hideout in a luxurious house in the port of Manta for fishermen.
On Friday, Vito, by video, was imprisoned in Gawayakhakil in front of a court, while he was in an orange prison.
In response to a question for the judge, he replied, “Yes, I accept (delivery).”
After his approval, the court announced the start of taking the necessary measures, as Nuboa must sign the official delivery papers.
Thus, Massias becomes the first Ecuadorian citizen to hand him over to another country since the approval of the law last year allowed this, after a referendum conducted by Nuboa and sought approval to enhance his war against criminal gangs.
