The government put in the draft law to practice the pharmacists’ profession, controls for the distribution and marketing of medical products and medicines via the Internet, as it prohibited the circulation of medical or biological products or medical supplies through any website or electronic application, except through a general pharmacy licensed to it, and after obtaining prior approval from the Egyptian Pharmaceutical Authority.
Controls for distributing and marketing medical products online
The government stressed in the draft law that Cairo 24 has seen, that obtaining approval from the Pharmaceutical Authority must take place after completing several requirements, as follows:
– The electronic link between the website or the electronic application and the general pharmacy records associated with it.
– Appointing a pharmacist who takes technical and administrative supervision of the site’s activity or electronic application.
– Using a believing electronic system to save customer data, document sales, and receive medical prescriptions.
It is also prohibited according to the draft law, the circulation of any of the preparations or requirements referred to, if it turns out that its circulation poses a threat to public health, a threat to its availability in the market, or a contradiction with safety or drug control requirements.
The articles of the law revealed that the approval specified by the Pharmaceutical Authority is issued in exchange for payment of a fee of five thousand pounds and is valid for a period of five years, which can be renewed in exchange for a fee of three thousand pounds.
The approval is also canceled in either of the two cases that are coming
1- Canceling a website or electronic application from the Supreme Council for Media Regulation.
2- Canceling a public pharmacy license related to the website or electronic application.
In all cases, the manager responsible for the website or the electronic application is obliged to stop the trading activity as soon as either of the two cases referred to or when the pharmacy is closed.
