Syrian Minister of Information Hamza Al -Mustafa said that about 300,000 fake accounting accounts on social media platforms publish misleading news targeting the Syrians through inflammatory letters.
He continued in statements on his accounts on social media, that these accounts “are distributed over 4 main countries”, which he did not specify.
The Syrian minister stated, on his Facebook account, that Syria is still under US sanctions regarding the relationship with social media platforms, and that progress is slow to lift it, despite the executive order signed by US President Donald Trump. He explained that the continuation of these penalties “hinders direct communication with these platforms, especially with regard to combating the campaigns of misinformation and rumors.”
He described the misleading content that is published as taking different forms, as it appears in some of its forms in support of the state, but he is interested in spreading a divisional speech. He explained that the Ministry of Information is making double efforts to stop the generation of new accounts, which in recent days amounted to large levels (10 thousand accounts per day).
He said that officials are counting on the public’s awareness until appropriate conditions are available, “and we call on everyone to be careful and responsible.”
It is noteworthy that Syrian journalists have established on the communication sites for years, two accounts, to combat misinformation and rumors.
The first is the “Akkar” platform that specializes in fact -finding, verifying news and information and fighting misinformation, dependent by international references in this field.
The other is the “Ikad” platform, which is making professional efforts to reveal the era and presents itself on “X” as the “Open Resources Intelligence Investigation” platform.
