On the occasion of the International Day to Combat Trafficking in Persons, which falls on the thirtieth of July of each year, the Kingdom of Bahrain affirms its firm commitment to combating this heinous crime, which is one of the most dangerous forms of human rights violation and the most prejudice to the dignity and freedom of the individual.
Public Prosecutor d. Ali Al -Buainain that the Public Prosecution in the Kingdom plays a pivotal role in the efforts of the state aimed at combating crimes of trafficking in persons, by taking active judicial measures and ensuring legal protection for the victims, stressing that the Kingdom of Bahrain is one of the leading countries in establishing a prosecutor specialized in crimes of trafficking in persons, in a move that reflects the state’s awareness of the privacy and complications of these crimes.
The Attorney General indicated that the Kingdom has an integrated system to combat this crime, which includes various official bodies under the umbrella of the National Committee to Combat Trafficking in Persons, which contributed to raising the efficiency of national performance and achieving institutional integration in this field. He also stressed that these efforts resulted in the assumption of the Kingdom of Bahrain first in the first category in the annual US State Department report on the classification of countries in combating trafficking in people, and remained preserved for several years in a row, which reflects international confidence and the seriousness of the Kingdom of Bahrain and its leadership in combating crime.
He explained that the Public Prosecution is not limited to investigation and prosecution, but rather an active role in enhancing international cooperation by exchanging experiences and information with judicial agencies in other countries, and participating in regional and international conferences and forums, as well as contributing to the formulation and modernization of legal frameworks in accordance with international best practices.
The Public Prosecutor stressed the importance of raising the level of societal awareness of the risks of trafficking in people, through public education and awareness programs that target various groups, especially groups most vulnerable to exploitation. He pointed out that prevention begins with knowledge, and that the conscious society is the first line in the face of this crime, which requires the activation of the role of the media, education institutions and civil society in spreading awareness and enhancing the culture of protection and responsibility.
He pointed out that the achievements achieved, but reflects the insightful vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the king of the country’s great country, and his keenness to consolidate justice and equality and safeguard human dignity, and the great and continuous support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister to develop the justice system in the Kingdom.
The Attorney General stressed the commitment of the Public Prosecution to continue its national role in facing this cross -border crime, by strengthening partnership with national and international bodies, developing early detection tools, and providing comprehensive protection to the victims, in a way that ensures the construction of a safe society, which is prevailing in justice, and respects human dignity.
