The Directorate of Health Affairs in Kafr El -Sheikh Governorate launched an intense awareness campaign about varicose veins (intravenous varicose veins), which is one of the common cases that affect a wide segment of citizens, especially the elderly and women, the campaign aims to increase awareness of the dangers of this situation and ways to deal with it effectively.
The Directorate indicated, in the statement issued by it, that varicose veins are swollen and twisted veins that often appear in the legs. This condition occurs as a result of a defect in the veins valves, which leads to the gathering of blood inside it and increased intravenous pressure.
Kafr El -Sheikh Health emphasized that the common causes of varicose veins include twice the valves of the veins, aging, pregnancy, obesity, standing or sitting for long periods, in addition to genetic factors.
As for the symptoms that may indicate varicose veins, they include prominent blue or purple veins, a feeling of heaviness or pain in the legs, swelling in the ankle or foot area, a feeling of itching or muscle cramps, and the symptoms aggravated with exposure to heat or standing for long periods.
While the Directorate of Health Affairs in Kafr El -Sheikh Governorate provided detailed instructions for the methods of prevention and treatment, divided into two parts first: home and preventive remedies, exercising regular physical activity such as walking or biking, raising the legs above the heart level during rest periods, avoiding sitting or standing for long periods of time as possible, and wearing pressing socks for varicose veins, and maintaining a healthy and ideal weight.
Second: Medical treatments, in cases that require medical intervention, include options, injection (cross therapy): where a substance inside the affected vein is injected to close, laser or catheter treatment is modern methods to close the veins affected by the inside, and surgery in advanced cases that do not respond to other treatments.
Kafr El -Sheikh Health stressed the importance of consulting a specialist doctor in the event of symptoms such as severe pain or clear swelling, or in the event of ulcers or bleeding from the veins, or if the symptoms do not improve despite self -care and preventive care.
The Directorate of Health in Kafr El -Sheikh confirmed that diagnosis and early treatment contribute greatly to the prevention of long -term complications of varicose veins. She also noted that not all prominent veins are considered dangerous varicose veins that require anxiety, so consulting the specialist doctor is necessary to assess the condition accurately and determine the most appropriate course of treatment.
