The Jordanian News Agency “Petra”, based on official investigations, revealed that the banned Muslim Brotherhood was involved in managing an illegal financial network that has spanned throughout the years, with an escalation in its financial activity in the past eight years.

Exploiting Gaza’s events to collect donations without supervision

Investigations indicated that the group took advantage of the sympathy of the Jordanian street with Gaza to collect donations in illegal ways, without coordination with the approved humanitarian authorities, which raised concern about the fate of the money that was collected outside the official frameworks.

Huge funds and investments inside and outside Jordan

The group managed to collect more than 30 million Jordanian dinars through people and associations affiliated with it, in addition to local and external investments and subscriptions imposed on members. Investigations confirmed that part of the funds were used to buy real estate and transfers in the interest of activities that violate the law.

Funding political activities inside and outside the Kingdom

Investigations revealed that part of the money was used to support cells and political activities inside Jordan, and that the group transferred money to Arab countries and outside the region. It was also announced that 4 million dinars were seized in homes and warehouse north of Amman.

Legal arrests and prosecutions

The authorities announced the arrest of 11 people and summoned others for investigation, while some were released on bail. The authorities confirm the continuation of efforts to pursue everyone who proves his involvement in the network.

Secret and public ways to collect donations

Investigations showed that the group used 44 divisions to collect donations, in secret ways through party headquarters, and in public to send limited donations to the Hashemite Charitable Authority. The officially documented funds did not exceed 413 thousand dinars, less than 1% of the full amount.

Transfer money in illegal ways

The donations were transferred to the dollar and then deposited in banking stores, and from them abroad in illegal ways that include transfer, shipping or smuggling. The group adopted a popular neighborhood crowded in Amman as a center for collecting money to hide its activities.

Fixed financing sources for political campaigns

The group funded political and media activities through its members’ contributions and revenues from property in regional countries, with an annual value that approaches 1.9 million dinars. The money was used to finance protests and campaigns, and to pay salaries for politicians affiliated with it.

Official procedures to dry the sources of financing

This step comes within the framework of wide Jordanian moves to pursue group financing networks, and prevent any economic activities that may constitute a cover for illegal political financing.
