Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni said today (Saturday) that the recognition of the State of Palestine before her establishment may lead to counterproductive results.

She added in a statement to the Italian newspaper, “La Repubblica”, “I strongly support the state of Palestine, but I do not support recognition of it before its stay … If the paper is recognized for something that is not present, the problem may seem as if it was solved and it was not solved.”

France’s decision to recognize a Palestinian state at the United Nations General Assembly in September, condemning Israel and the United States, amid the war in the Gaza Strip between Israel and the Hamas movement.

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Taiani said yesterday (Friday) that the recognition of a Palestinian state must be associated with the recognition of this new state in Israel.

A German government spokesman said yesterday that Berlin does not intend to recognize a Palestinian state in the short term, and that its priority now is to achieve “a lot of delay” towards a “two -state solution”.
