German counselor Friedrich Mertz, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, called for the introduction of humanitarian aid to the civilian population of starvation in the Gaza Strip urgently.
According to a statement issued by his office on Sunday, Mertz stressed that this aid must reach the civilian population quickly and safely and in sufficient quantities, expressing his deep concern about the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the sector.
Turk: The daily tragedy in Gaza and the West Bank are indescribable
In this context, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volcker Turk, called on Sunday the world’s governments to take all possible forms of pressure on the Israeli occupation authority to permanently stop the massacres in the Gaza Strip.
And Turk stressed, according to the United Nations News website, the need for states to take concrete steps to ensure the Israeli occupation compliance with its obligations to provide adequate food and the basic needs of life to the residents of Gaza.
He expressed his anger at the daily indescribable tragedy in Gaza and the West Bank, and denounced destruction, killing and stripping the Palestinians of their humanity day after day, adding that Gaza has become a miserable scene of deadly attacks and complete destruction where children die in front of the world.
He pointed out that more than 200,000 Palestinians have been killed or wounded since October 7, 2023, according to medical sources in the sector, equivalent to about 10% of the total population, denouncing the killing of more than 300 United Nations employees while performing their work as a result of the military operations of the occupation forces.
Turk emphasized the readiness of the United Nations to support the Palestinians in building their state on the basis of human rights and the rule of law, and he said: When that time comes, the programs designated to support victims and survivors will be among the important ways towards achieving justice and accountability.
