Counselor Wael Rashid Boulay, Assistant Public Prosecutor, stated that the sixth microcredit court issued its ruling to condemn the owners of two companies, to imprison the first three years, fined him one hundred thousand dinars, fined the second one hundred and one thousand dinars, and condemning one of the officials of imprisonment for a period Markets and distribution of foods in all their branches with a fine of ten thousand dinars each and their closure for a period of six months, confiscation and destruction of corrupt and adulterated goods, materials and tools used in that, for what was assigned to them in the incident of possession of corrupt foodstuffs, circulating and marketing them after falsifying the dates of their validity.
Details of the incident are due to the receipt of a report to the Public Prosecution from the Thursday Police Station (A) at the Northern Governorate Police Directorate, according to which a complaint worker mentioned that he had recently attended to the Kingdom, and joined the work in one of the store The original and a new status, by replacing the stickers carrying the dates ending with another with new dates, and he refused to continue to work in that way, and recorded a video clip of the facts of changing the dates of validity, and then submitted to it, and as a result, the Ministry of Industry and Trade began its procedures, and issued a decision to close the warehouse and commercial stores of the company. A team of prosecution members initiated the transfer immediately upon receiving the communication to the company’s warehouse, and they conducted the inspection, and the prosecution interrogated twenty -nine accused, owners, officials and employees of the company, and ordered that they all be imprisoned as a reserve pending the investigation, and also ordered the reservation of the warehouse, including foodstuffs and all shops for the company’s foodstuffs, and assigned the specialists in the Ministry of Industry and Trade In accordance with expired food commodities, and to take what is necessary to control any expired goods circulating in the markets, the inventory resulted in the seizure of more than fourteen thousand expired food products, in addition to chemicals used to remove the original validity dates.
Food products – imported by the company – were also falsified – the expiq’s dates are for sale in a number of commercial markets, and the prosecution has been a forgery expert in the management of material evidence to examine samples of seized food products, whose report concluded to forgery of the dates of the expiration of food products in question by removing the original dates and setting new others, and by replacing the stickers that bear the ends Another carrying new dates, as the prosecution heard the witnesses of the incident, and requested police investigations, which confirmed the validity of the incident.
After the investigations ended and the accusation evidence was identified before the accused, the Public Prosecution ordered that they be referred to the competent court, which issued its advanced ruling.
The Assistant Attorney General emphasized that the health and safety of food is one of the urgent priorities that cannot be tolerated, and called on all those in charge of food establishments in the Kingdom of Bahrain to the need to fully adhere to the laws and regulations in force, and to ensure the application of all safety standards, noting that prejudice to individual health is a crime that requires accountability, and that the Public Prosecution will not compromise in taking all legal measures against violators.
