A 61 -year -old man died in New York State, as a result of serious injuries he suffered after he attracted MRI a metal chain he was wearing while he was inside the examination room.
NASO police reported that the accident occurred last Wednesday at the Nasso ONMARI Center in Westburie, where the man entered the room while conducting a medical examination of one of his relatives, ignoring the warnings related to safety and not entering metal materials into the filming room.
According to the police statement, the man rushed into the room after hearing his relative’s cries, which led to the attraction of the metal chain that he was wearing violently towards the device, to suffer a severe injury, after which he was transferred to the hospital, where he died a day after the accident.
Specialists from North Shore University Hospital explained that the strong magnetic field in resonance imaging devices can turn metal bodies into dangerous projectiles, noting the importance of strict adherence to safety procedures inside medical photography rooms.
Dr. Payal Sud stressed that these incidents are rare, but they highlight the potential risks in the event that medical and security guidance is not bound.
It is noteworthy that the relevant medical center, which runs several branches in the New York region, has not yet issued any official comment regarding the accident.
