The United States has recorded this year the highest number of measles infection since the announcement of its elimination in 2000, amid a noticeable decrease in the rates of vaccination between the Afal in more than 30 states, and coverage with important vaccines such as measles, mumps and measles (MMR), polio, and whooping cough decreased, which caused health experts about the return of serious diseases previously eliminated, according to CNN.
High measles in America due to the decline in vaccination
Lina Wayne, a professor of medicine at George Washington University, noted that this decline in vaccination may lead to the spread of new epidemics, as it has already happened in the state of Texas, which recorded 753 measles since January, including two deaths and 98 cases that needed to enter the hospital.
She emphasized that receiving a pollinator does not mean complete protection, as the possibility of infection is still in place, albeit in low proportions, and that the effectiveness of some vaccines, such as the pertish cough vaccine, may decrease over time, which makes some groups such as the elderly and patients with weak immunity more vulnerable to the disease despite their previous vaccination.
The most vulnerable groups include infants who have not yet obtained vaccines, weak immunity, and the elderly. Also, pregnant women cannot get some vaccines such as MMR, which exposes them and those in their wombs to serious complications if diseases spread.
