French Foreign Minister Jean -Noel Barrow announced on Monday that the European Union is preparing to impose a new package of sanctions on Russia, which is the most fierce in 3 years.
“In coordination with members of the US Senate, and based on French proposals, the European Union is preparing to impose the stronger sanctions against Russia 3 years in 3 years.”.
He also explained that these sanctions “will target Russian oil revenues, Russian financial actors, and mediators in other countries” claiming to “help Russia to circumvent the restrictions,” according to Russian media.
He also pointed out that the aim of these sanctions is to prevent Russia from continuing the military operation in Ukraine.
“Achieving all its goals”
It is noteworthy that, since Russia began its military operation in Ukraine in February 2022, the European Union imposed 17 sanctions packages that are renewed every six months in a decision unanimously issued by the 27 members.
While Russian President Vladimir Putin insists on continuing the war to achieve all its goals, according to AFP.
In particular, Moscow is demanding that Ukraine be abandoned 4 regions partially controlled by the Russian army, as well as the Crimean Peninsula, which Moscow included in a single decision in 2014, in addition to Kiev abandoning the idea of joining NATO, in demands that Ukraine fully reject.
For its part, Ukraine demands that the Russian army completely withdraw from its lands, which Moscow forces currently control about 20% of them.
