The head of the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam Office, Areejawi Barahi, said that his country will not stop at one dam, because it needs multiple water projects to support agriculture and achieve development.
He added in statements carried by Ethiopian media today, Wednesday, that the Renaissance Dam project does not represent the end, but rather a first step within a long path of self -development that the country leads in the water and energy sector.
He explained that Ethiopia cannot be satisfied with only one dam, stressing the need to create additional dams that serve vital purposes, foremost of which is the support of the agricultural sector.
He continued his speech by saying: We will not stop at only one block; Rather, we need dams that serve other lands, including agriculture.
Egypt confirms: The Ethiopian dam is illegal
Ethiopia continues the Renaissance Dam project without signing an agreement with Egypt on its operation, which may affect the flow of water to Egypt, in violation of the ruling international law of the cross -border rivers, such as the Nile River.
Dr. Hani Swailem, Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources, stressed that this dam was illegal was built in contravention of international law, explaining that the fifth item of the “principles” of the Ethiopian Dam determines reaching an agreement in fullness and employment and this did not happen.
He added that everything that happens by the Ethiopian side regarding the Renaissance Dam is to address global public opinion, stressing that this file is the most important in its table, saying: Our responsibility is to preserve the rights of Egyptians from water and the way in which Ethiopia addresses global opinion is just political maneuvers.
