British Prime Minister Kiir Starmer confirmed that the United Kingdom will recognize the State of Palestine next September, in the event that Israel does not take real steps to end what he described as the “horrific situation” in the Gaza Strip. He added that the recognition comes within the framework of protecting the two -state solution, which the British government considers the only realistic choice to achieve permanent peace in the region.
Clear demands from Israel
Starmer stressed the need for Israel to commit to not to include lands in the West Bank, and to work hard within a comprehensive peace process aimed at achieving a two -state solution, while ensuring the rights of the Palestinians and stopping the escalation in the occupied territories. He pointed out that Britain’s support for Israeli security is still fixed, but it does not contradict the recognition of the Palestinian state.
Hazem’s position on Hamas
With regard to Hamas, Starmer said that Britain is not equal to it and Israel, and that the demands directed at the movement are still in place, stressing at the same time the need for the hostages to release in Gaza immediately. He stressed that Hamas does not represent all the Palestinian people.
Humanitarian aid to Gaza
Starmer announced that Britain began to throw the first shipments of humanitarian aid by air over the Gaza Strip, in order to alleviate the humanitarian suffering that the residents of the Strip suffer in light of the continued siege and the lack of basic supplies.
The British Foreign Ministry confirms its commitment
For his part, the British Foreign Secretary said that London will bear a great responsibility regarding the payment of a two -state solution, stressing his country’s commitment to Israel’s security, but he also stressed the need for international decisions related to the Palestinians to remain ink on paper. He explained that recognition of the State of Palestine aims to restore political balance and achieve justice in the region.
