On Saturday, British Prime Minister Kiir Starmer held talks with his French and German counterparts, and reviewed Britain’s plans to deliver aid to the residents of Gaza and evacuate sick and injured children.
“The Prime Minister reviewed how Britain will go ahead with its plans to cooperate with partners such as Jordan to drop air aid and evacuate children who need medical care,” said a statement issued by the Starmer office.
During a phone call, Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz discussed the humanitarian situation in Gaza, and they all agreed that it was “horrific.”
“The leaders agreed on the necessity of developing strong plans to transform the required ceasefire urgently into a permanent peace,” added the Downting Street statement.
The statement continued that they “discussed their intention to work closely together on a plan that pave the way for a long -term solution that achieves security in the region, and they agreed that once this plan was formulated, they will seek to cooperate with other active parties, including from within the region, to push this plan forward.”
These talks come one day after the Secretary -General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, directed sharp criticism of the international community for ignoring the widespread famine in the Gaza Strip, describing it as a “ethical crisis as a challenge to the global conscience.”
Relief organizations had warned of the high number of children suffering from acute malnutrition in the Gaza Strip, which Israel tightened its siege, and prevented the introduction of aid to it in March in the midst of its war with Hamas.
In late May, Tel Aviv allowed the entry of aid distributed by the “Gaza Humanitarian Foundation” backed by Israel and the United States. United Nations agencies refused to deal with this institution.
