Brazil has announced its intention to join the complaint filed by South Africa before the International Court of Justice, which accuses Israel of committing “extermination” in the Gaza Strip.
The Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it is “in the final stage of submitting an official request” to join the lawsuit that South Africa started before the International Court of Justice, which is the highest Judicial body in the United Nations, based in The Hague.
Other countries such as Bolivia, Colombia, Libya, Spain and Mexico joined the complaint.
Israel criticized the complaint, denying its extermination in the Gaza Strip.
In decisions issued in January, March (March) and May 2024, the International Court of Justice called on Israel to do its utmost to “avoid” extermination during its military operations in the Gaza Strip, including providing urgent humanitarian assistance to avoid famine.
A statement issued by the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned “blind violence” against civilians and “using starvation as a war weapon.”
The statement added: “The international community cannot stand idle in front of the ongoing atrocities.”
