Doctors revealed a rare injury to two American men, which was seriously injured, after they underwent two of the one -donor kidney transplant, which raised concerns about the criteria for examining donors in the United States, according to New England Medical Magazine.

A rare parasitic infection that affects men in America

The doctors confirmed that the two men, 61 and 66 years old, had received a college from a donor from the Caribbean Sea region.

One of the two patients suffered from excessive thirst, abdominal pain and the appearance of a violet rash on the abdomen, while symptoms such as acute fatigue, the decline in kidney function and a decrease in the number of white blood cells appeared, and after the failure of antibiotics and excluding a viral or bacterial infection, doctors discovered the presence of stranuloids stecoralis in stool and skin samples.

Anti -parasitic drugs

The report stated that the infection was probably transmitted from the donor, as it was later found that it carries antibodies to the parasite, and none of the recipients had these bodies before the operation, which is likely to be injured after the transplant, and doctors confirmed that this type of parasite can enter the body through the skin when exposed to contaminated soil, and causes digestive and skin symptoms that may pass without the patient noticing.

It is noteworthy that the United States performs about 48,000 organ transplants annually, kidney transplants constitute more than two -thirds, and the organs are subject to accurate checks before planting, but examining some parasites is not always among routine procedures.

The patients were treated with anti -parasitic drugs, including Everbcin and Albindazole, and we were able to completely recover, but the incident shed light on the need to strengthen the protocols of examining donors to avoid transmission of infection through the organs.
