During the eleventh meeting of the Arab Satellite Cooperation Group, which was held in the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Kingdom of Bahrain was chosen to chair the Arab Space Strategic Plan Committee. This appointment is a recognition of the growing role of the Kingdom of Bahrain in the regional leadership in the field of space and its strong institutional capabilities in strategic planning and its remarkable success in enhancing international cooperation.
Professor Rasha Al -Amad, Head of the Strategic Planning Department of the Bahrain Space Agency (BSA) was assigned to take over the representation of the Kingdom of Bahrain in the chairmanship of this committee, which includes in its membership representatives of eight Arab space agencies, where it will lead to the process of preparing the strategy and supervising its implementation and evaluating it periodically. The committee aims to coordinate efforts at the national and Arab levels to enhance cooperation in order to put the Arab region as a competitive force on the global space scene.
On this choice, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim Al -Asiri, CEO of Bahrain Space Agency, stated: “We are very proud of this choice, which reflects the great confidence of the agency and its institutional capabilities at the regional level. We look forward to working closely with the brothers in space agencies and bodies in the Arab countries to develop a unified space strategy that supports innovation and capacity building and takes the region to a new level of scientific and technical contributions in the space sector.”
Al -Asiri added: “Through this organized and joint process, the committee will undertake a comprehensive and unified strategy for the Arab space sector, including consultations with the member states of the group to define common goals, link regional ambitions to global trends, and set a clear road map that supports sustainable growth of this sector in the Arab region.”
Professor Rasha Al -Amad added: “I am honored to take over the leadership of this important committee, which plays a pivotal role in drawing the future of the space sector in the Arab region. Our focus will be to enhance cooperation between the member states of the group, ensure an organized methodology in preparing the strategy, and maintaining strong coordination throughout the implementation and follow -up stages.”
The mayors added: “After approving the strategy, the committee will supervise its implementation and follow up on progress through the approved performance indicators, evaluate the results, and prepare periodic reports on the achievements and positions of improvement. In order to achieve this comprehensive methodology for managing the strategy, the Arab satellite strategic plan will remain dynamic and effective, and is able to keep pace with regional and international changes.”
This leadership role reflects the positive growth of the Bahrain Space Agency’s experiences in the field of space governance, strategic planning and international cooperation, and it should be noted that the Bahrain Space Agency played a pivotal role in formulating the national satellite policy and its organizational framework, which set the foundations for sustainable development in this vital sector.
