Italian media reported that nearly 30 cases of western Nile fever were recorded since the beginning of the year in the Lazio region in central Italy.
The Italian newspaper, La Stamba, said that the number of cases of infection in the west of the Nile confirmed in Lazio since the beginning of the year reached 28 cases, explaining that the region has reported seven new cases.
Meanwhile, 26 cases of West Nile fever were recorded, including one death, in Latina Province near Rome, La Stamba reported.
Symptoms of West Nile fever
According to the newspaper, you can develop a fever of the west of the Nile if you bite a mosquito infected with it, and most of the patients do not have symptoms, but about 20% of them suffer from symptoms of flu -like symptoms, including headache, fever, vomiting and diarrhea, and severe cases may cause neurological diseases, such as encephalitis, meningitis and polio.
There is no known vaccine to prevent the West Nile fever, nor medications to treat it, and the virus does not spread directly among humans, except for rare cases, such as the transmission of infection from the mother to the child during pregnancy, blood transfusion, and organ transplantation.
This disease is settler in the tropical and semi -tropical regions, but it has been increasingly recorded in non -tropical countries, such as Italy, Spain and Greece.
