A wave of earthquake strikes in eastern Russia, the last of which is 5.3 Richter … and warning of the threat of tsunami

The Russian Ministry of Emergency announced today, Sunday, that a 5.3 -magnitude earthquake occurred in the Camchatka Peninsula in the far east of Russia, after a strong wave of analog that struck the island today, amid warnings of a tsunami.

The last earthquake was 5.3 on the Richter scale, and the earthquake center is located in a coastal area off the coast of the Pacific Ocean, 146 km east of the city of Petrobavlofsk-Kamsksky, according to the Russian RIA Novosti.

The agency explained that the earthquake center is located at a depth of 20 kilometers below the surface of the earth, and that 3-magnitude shooks were heard in some parts of Petrovavovsk-Kamcatsky.

A regional official of the Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences told RIA Novosti that the region witnessed nearly 30 tremors in the wake of the two earthquakes.

The head of the Camchatka Vladimir Soludov province said that the power of the strongest earthquake was 7.6 degrees, but no significant damage has been determined yet.

However, the threat of a tsunami was announced in several cities in the region, and the office of the mayor of Petrovavlofovsk-Kamsksky warned that high waves may reach two meters, and the maximum alert in the Ost-Kamchatky region was announced, but it was not announced that the residents of the Camchatsk region were evacuated.

A strong earthquake wave hit eastern Russia

The strength of the shocks ranged between 4 and 6.7 degrees, according to the regional office of the Russian Ministry of Emergency, adding that 22 inspection teams completed the examination of establishments of social importance that is likely to be dangerous, in addition to the buildings of educational institutions, energy, heating and water supplies throughout the Kamchatka region.

The office emphasized that all residential, educational and health facilities and energy supplies are working normally.

Earlier in the day, two earthquakes of 7 and 7.6 on the Richter scale occurred in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of the Russian Kamchatka, and the residents of some areas of Petrovagvsk-Kamcatsky felt shakes.

The Camchatka Peninsula is the meeting point of the tectonic plate of the Pacific and North America, making it a hot seismic zone, and since 1900, the region struck seven major earthquakes of 8.3 degrees or more.
