The Dutch company Loop Biotech launched the first “live coffin” biological decomposition in the world, as an alternative option for people interested in the environment and those wishing to bury more sustainable, according to the British newspaper “Daily Mail”.
The tabot is made of fungi (mushroom roots) and recycled cannabis fibers, and it is designed to completely analyze within 45 days after burial, which enriches the surrounding soil and becomes part of nature.
The tabot, currently available in the UK, weighs about 30 kg and can carry a weight of up to 200 kg. It comes with a brush made of hemp and a pillow of algae, with the possibility of “upgrade” to a wool or cotton pillow for more comfort. Although he is a friend of the environment, its price is relatively high, as it is about 3000 pounds.
These coffins grow at the Loop Biotech facility in Dutch Dutch using local raw materials. The manufacturing process takes only 7 days, without the need for wood, paint, adhesives or nails, which greatly reduces the environmental impact compared to traditional wooden coffins that require contracts for trees growth and consumes large energy in manufacturing and transportation.
This coffin drew attention recently in the United States after Maria Ana denied her father, Mark Ann, in a live coffin on their land in Maine, becoming the first person to be buried in the United States using this type of coffin.
His daughter described this burial as an investigation of the desire of her father who loved nature, and he always said that he wanted to be buried naked under a tree in the woods.
The company has so far sold about 2,500 coffin in Europe, the majority of which are in the Netherlands, and it also sells decomposing ash utensils at a price of about 300 pounds, and a plant can be grown on its surface to become a tree after its burial.
Although the burial of the live coffin is still more expensive than regular coffins, whose prices range between 270 and 2000 pounds in the United Kingdom, the company’s founder Bob Hendricks says: “The funerals can be more than just the ends, which can be beginnings,” indicating the possibility that the person leaves a positive impact on nature after his death.
