The manufacturing series witnessed IPhone phones Great transformations since the launch of the phone in 2007, but recent political tensions have pushed these transformations towards a more complex turn, after US President Donald Trump threatened to impose harsh customs duties on Apple unless the manufacture of its devices to American territory.
Manufacturing policy under policy pressure
Apple has always relied on the production of iPhone on factories in China, but commercial tensions between Washington and Beijing during Trump’s first state, and the accompanying customs duties, prompted the company to transform a large part of production towards India, in an attempt to reduce dependence on China and diversify supply chains.
But the tension returned again. Trump threatened a few days ago to impose a 25% customs fee on the iPhone if Apple did not start manufacturing the phone inside the United States, and wrote on his platform Truth Social: Tim Cook has long informed that I expect to manufacture iPhone in the United States, not in India or anywhere else, and if this does not happen, Apple will have to pay customs duties at least 25%.
The new manufacturing map
According to the CNBC network, the iPhone production is no longer limited to China, as it now includes several countries such as India, which has become the second largest center for the assembly of iPhone, and Vietnam that specializes in spare parts and accurate electronics, in addition to South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia and Thailand to produce sub -parts, and in the United States to collect some components and chips.
The shift in the manufacturing strategy came within the Apple plan to reduce geopolitical risks and ensure greater flexibility in supply chains, but today it is under a new political threat that may be reflected in prices and sales.
Standard sales despite the challenges
Despite these challenges, Apple continued to win huge gains from iPhone sales. In 2024, the number of units sold reached more than 228 million phones, while revenues reached 201.2 billion dollars, equivalent to 51% of Apple’s total revenues, which amounted to 390.8 billion dollars, according to Statista, Vegioal Capitalist.
Apple also managed to overcome Samsung for the second time in its history in terms of the volume of smart phone shipments, and won a market share of 19% worldwide.
The most prominent globally iPhone markets
The Americas topped the Apple market with revenues of $ 167 billion, 43% of the company’s total revenues, followed by Europe with 101 billion dollars, then China with 67 billion dollars.
However, it is noticeable that China was the only main market that saw an annual decrease in sales by 8%, while Apple sales in Europe increased by 7%, making it a battlefield, especially with the rise of Chinese companies such as Oppo.
More than a billion users around the world
According to the Backlinko platform, the number of internationally active iPhone users is estimated at about 1.382 billion users in 2024, an annual increase of 3.6%.
The Country Point Reservation Company also indicated that 4 of the 10 most selling phones in the world this year are an iPhone, which proves the continued dominance of Apple icon on the smart phone market.
The future of iPhone..what between innovation and political restrictions
Despite Apple’s commercial success, Trump’s threat to impose customs duties by 25% if manufacturing is not transferred to the United States, a factor that might pressure the company to change its strategy again, which may lead to a high cost of iPhone production, the possibility of increasing the selling price for the consumer, disturbance in supply chains, and possible changes in the employment map inside Apple.
