In the world of smartphones, Samsung has a long record of leadership in the development of screens, processors and memory, but when talking about batteries comes it seems that the Korean company prefers to walk at a calculated pace instead of jumping towards immature techniques yet.

Competitive companies such as Xiaomi Won Plus, have already started using silicone and carbon batteries, which are promoted as a promising solution to raise energy density and reduce the volume of the battery, but Samsung chose to remain at a distance conservative on its adoption of traditional ion lithium batteries even in its latest phones such as Galaxy S25 Edge.

Caution logic after a bitter experience

Samsung’s decision is not random, as the company is currently conducting strict tests on new types of batteries, focusing on safety and sustainability before anything else, and this caution is not strange if we remember the Galaxy Note 7 crisis when the batteries caused an explosion that pushed the company to withdraw millions of devices from the market, and it seems that this experience was sufficient to draw clear limits for the Samsung strategy in Adopting any new energy technology.

What prevents Samsung from adopting silicone batteries?

Despite the great promises made by the batteries based on silicon and carbon, they are not flawless, as one of the most prominent problems is related to silicone expansion during the shipping process, which leads to rapid damage to the battery and perhaps shortening its life significantly, and this contradicts the current Samsung policy that aims to provide devices that last for a long time and get security and software for years.

Innovation on the way, but on conditions

Despite its reservation, this does not mean that Samsung is outside the development field, reports indicate that the company intends to test a silicone carbon battery in one of its upcoming foldable phones three times, as a first experience before making a broader decision to generalize the technology, and this step shows that the company does not reject the new but it chooses the appropriate time carefully.
