On Tuesday, the US House of Representatives voted on Tuesday against a move to isolate President Donald Trump on charges of “abuse of power”, against the backdrop of military strikes against Iran without obtaining prior permission from Congress.
The sudden move came at the initiative of the Democratic Representative Al -Green from the state of Texas, knowing that his party was divided over the initiative, as most Democrats joined the Republican majority to vote to postpone the consideration of the decision, while dozens of Democrats supported Green’s endeavor.
The vote ended with a score of 344 opponents of the initiative, compared to 79 supporters.
“I do this because no one must have power to pay more than 300 million people in the war without consulting with Congress,” Green said before the vote.
He continued: “I do this because the constitution either has meaning or will be meaningless.”
Although this step is not the first attempt to isolate Trump since the beginning of his second term in January, it reflects the state of anxiety among many Democrats towards his administration, especially after the sudden attack on Iranian nuclear facilities, which was considered a risky adventure to interfere in the affairs of the Middle East.
Earlier on Tuesday, Trump, using profanity, attacked the Democratic Representative Alexandria Okasio Cortez from New York, after describing his military operation against Iran as a “crime that requires isolation.”
