Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam confirmed that the Lebanese army has dismantled more than 500 sites and weapons stores in the south of the Litani River since the end of the last war with Israel and Hezbollah last November.
Enhancing military deployment in the south
Salam said, during his speech on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the formation of its government, that the army has strengthened its deployment in the south of the country during the past months, adding: “The army is making great progress and expanding its presence in the south.”
Condemnation of Israeli violations
Salam pointed out that security and stability will not be achieved as long as the daily Israeli violations are continuing, with parts of Lebanese territory occupation and refused to release the prisoners.
Efforts to reconstruction and improve services
The Prime Minister explained that Beirut continues its official contacts to proceed with the war reconstruction plan, with a noticeable improvement in the country’s health and social services.
Commitment to implement Resolution 1701
Salam said: “We will continue to pressure Israel to completely withdraw from every inch of our lands,” stressing the pursuit of the return of the people to their areas with dignity and the completion of the reconstruction.
The background of the conflict
It is noteworthy that the southern Lebanese witnessed violent battles between Hezbollah and Israel that lasted for a whole year, and ended with an agreement that stipulated the dismantling of the party’s infrastructure and a full Israeli withdrawal, but Tel Aviv still maintains five strategic locations inside Lebanese territory.
