The head of the Municipal Council of the Southern Region, Abdullah Abdullatif, stressed that the municipal work witnessed important developments that greatly affected the improvement of the quality of services provided to citizens, and that the municipalities have become more open to citizens, and that the communication channels that have created facilitated the arrival of complaints and requests of citizens, which increased the level of confidence and interaction between the concerned authorities and members of society.

He revealed that the development led to an increase in the implementation of various projects, in addition to increasing the number of beneficiaries of the project to fall and rain insulators, as 371 houses were implemented for the fall and the restoration of 662 houses and the installation of rain insulators for 340 houses, which is one of the most important projects implemented to support the citizen.

Tell us about the most prominent problems of the southern region?
– The southern region of the Kingdom of Bahrain is the largest and lowest governorate of the Kingdom in terms of population in terms of population density, and the most prominent problems in the region are summarized in the lack of some basic services such as health centers and their overcrowding in auditors, and the absence of a major hospital such as Al -Salmaniya Medical Hospital and King Hamad Hospital, and the region also needs some entertainment facilities and schools.
In addition to insufficient public transport network (roads) and the difficulty of accessing some areas, the southern region also needs to improve some roads and expand some of them as the Riffa Street to reduce bottlenecks.
The general situation also requires opening new roads in the southern governorate, and the region also needs to increase housing projects, as the southern region suffers from a shortage of housing projects compared to the size of housing requests in them.
What do you think of the use of modern technologies in municipal work?
– Modern technologies aim to improve the quality of services provided to society, enhance the efficiency of planning and city management, and that the exploitation of artificial intelligence is an opportunity to improve the quality of life, and to enhance the efficiency of municipal work through its use in monitoring construction violations without the need to examine it by the inspectors, which makes cities more intelligent and sustainable, and perhaps the most prominent of which are smart applications and digital systems that enable citizens to complete their transactions and inquire about Treat them easily and quickly without the need for personal attendance. Individuals can also inquire about any treatment through social media such as the “WhatsApp” application.
The buildings system is the latest systems created by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture, as this system is concerned with issuing building permits for all projects in the Kingdom of Bahrain, whether investment, residential, industrial, commercial, etc. The system allows the licensed engineering offices in the Kingdom of Bahrain to submit requests for construction licenses, inquire about the status of requests, obtain consulting services by government agencies related to construction licenses, pay fees related to building licenses, and apply for other construction services.
The system also facilitates the applicants to obtain all the information that helps them to prepare the documents, graphics and maps necessary to submit applications by presenting all the requirements and legislations related to building licenses on the site and through an interactive map of the Kingdom of Bahrain, which show the requirements related to each voucher.
What about the developments that occurred in municipal work during your career? How do you see cooperation with the parties between the past and the present?
– Through my career in municipal work, I witnessed many important developments that had a great impact on improving the quality of services provided to citizens, and among the most prominent of these developments:
Digital transformation, where electronic systems have been adopted to facilitate municipal procedures, such as applying electronically to request restoration and installation of rain insulators, issuing construction and restoration licenses through a buildings system, paying fees through modern technologies, and submitting complaints and inquiries through platforms for this and social media, which reduced paper transactions, and contributed to accelerating the pace of work.
On the level of improving infrastructure, the southern governorate witnessed many developments in road and lighting projects, modernizing sewage and water networks, in response to the needs of the population and improving the quality of life in the neighborhoods, as well as the maintenance of public facilities and the opening of a number of parks and mosques.
The municipalities have also become more open to citizens through communication channels and periodic meetings, and to carry out many events in partnership with individuals, which increased the level of confidence and interaction with the population.
Inspection, monitoring and follow -up mechanisms were also developed using modern technologies such as GIS (GIS) and immediate reports, which helped control violations and improve public performance.
The municipalities also sought to increase the area of the green area and afforestation, and the municipalities began to rely on environmentally friendly initiatives, such as waste recycling and the use of renewable energy.

Tell us about the national afforestation campaign in southern?
– In the first stage of the campaign, 14895 trees and quarrels were instilled by 14 sites in the southern governorate, in cooperation with the municipalities, while with the strict participation supporting the campaign from civil society institutions and other relevant parties wishing to support the campaign, 13943 trees and a qua were cultivated in the southern.
In the second stage, 7656 trees and shrubs have been planted in cooperation with the municipalities, and 22405 trees and a qua of the strict posts supporting the campaign.
In the third stage, the afforestation work included public streets, gardens, livestock and coasts, while 16 sites affiliated with other official institutions affiliated with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, primary health care centers and other institutions were cultivated, and the projects included cultivating 20 locations in the southern governorate where 7461 trees and shrubs were planted in cooperation with the municipalities, in addition to 21611 trees, trees, from the repulsive participants.
