In the context of the Bahrain Space Agency seeking to localize advanced space technologies, and to advance space science in the Kingdom of Bahrain by implementing qualitative projects and initiatives and enhancing its international relations, the agency announced the launch of its first specialized cargo in monitoring and identifying clouds in satellite images, using advanced artificial intelligence technologies, and in cooperation with the Chinese “Starvision” and “Oman lens” Oman, Oman, Oman, Oman, Omani, and in cooperation with the Chinese “Starvision”, and “Starfen”, and the “Stargin”, and the Omani “Lens of Oman”, and the Omani “Starfision Lens”, On a joint satellite between the Sultanate of Oman and the People’s Republic of China.

This distinguished project witnessed the participation of a group of Bahrain Space Agency engineers in the design, development and testing of advanced artificial intelligence algorithms, to be applied on a satellite that revolves in the low ground orbit.

The project aims to build national capabilities in the field of developing artificial intelligence algorithms, in a way that enhances local competencies, stimulates continuous innovation, and contributes to consolidating the position of the Kingdom of Bahrain as a regional center for space innovation.

These algorithms are concerned with analyzing the satellite images that the satellite takes in an immediate way, to monitor and determine the clouds and estimate the percentage of their coverage of the images, and then replace them automatically with parts of previous images before sending them to the ground stations.

This contributes to raising the efficiency of space systems, improving the quality of the extracted data, which are later used in multiple applications, such as urban planning, measuring air and water quality, determining ship sites and identities, and other space applications that provide important data for a large number of entities and institutions in the public and private sectors.

On this achievement, Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim Al -Asiri, CEO of Bahrain Space Agency, said: “This project constitutes a new achievement that is added to the Bahrain Space Agency’s record, and contributes to the consolidation of the position of the Kingdom of Bahrain among the leading spaces in the field of space in order to achieve the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the king of the country, may God protect and preserve him. It is also clear evidence of the vast international relations that the agency enjoys, The technician who was accomplished by its affiliates, as well as their scientific and practical capabilities that paved the way for this qualitative and distinguished cooperation.

For his part, space engineer Yaqoub Al -Qassab explained: “This project comes within a series of initiatives aimed at building national capabilities in the field of developing and integrating artificial intelligence algorithms with satellite components, and the technical team based on the project is a nucleus for a Bahraini team specializing in the use of artificial intelligence techniques in space, in a way that serves the goals of sustainable development, and the team is currently continuing to work on another project in cooperation with the same The two companies, and aims to launch new algorithms into space for automatic detection of marine ships. “

This project is the first Bahraini -Omani cooperation in the space sector, and it represents the third Arab -Chinese space cooperation, after the Bahraini -Egyptian -Chinese cooperation in lunar projects.
