Dr. Fahim Bassiouni pointed out that surgery is not the perfect choice for obesity, stressing that surgeries such as gagging and diverting the path are the destruction of the body and not a real treatment, saying: Slimming surgery is the destruction of the body … against anatomy and physiology.

Dr. Fahim Bassiouni said that the future of obesity does not lie in surgery at all, adding: The surgery is supposed to nullify ten years, stressing that the global trend is heading towards safer and more effective alternatives.

He stressed that resorting to surgery in the event of medicinal or behavioral treatment is considered illogical, saying: The need that is treated with a drug, surgery is stupidity, calling on doctors to reassess traditional treatment methods.

He criticized gagging operations that include removing a large percentage of the stomach, noting that the stomach is a organ that should not be sacrificed with this cruelty just because of weight loss.
Bassiouni stressed that most obesity patients are going through a critical health stage within a short period, which requires intervention, but he refused that surgery is the only or first solution.
