Syrian sources responsible revealed in a special interview with the Israeli Channel 12, that secret talks are taking place between Syria and Israel, by American mediation aimed at reaching a gradual peace agreement between the two sides, in light of the regional changes and cautious rapprochement witnessed by the Middle East.
The peace agreement will be in stages
According to the sources, the administration of former US President Donald Trump played a fundamental role in setting the initial framework of these negotiations, while the current administration continues to follow this path quietly. The sources pointed out that the agreement, in the event of its completion, will be in stages, starting with security understandings and stabilizing the commitment to the 1974 separation agreement, with guarantees not to escalate at the border.
The future of the Golan Heights
The sources add that the next stage may include economic steps between the two sides, in preparation for subsequent political negotiations on sensitive files, most notably the future of the Golan Heights, which demands Damascus to restore within any final agreement.
The sources confirmed that the new Syrian President, Ahmed Al -Shara, expresses a conditional openness towards the idea of peace, provided that Israel withdraws from the lands it controlled after the fall of the previous regime, and stopped repeated air attacks inside the Syrian territories.
Damascus also requires clear American guarantees, and to open paths for international investment in the country as part of any comprehensive deal.
So far, Israel or the United States has not officially confirmed this information, but the leaks come at a time when regional calm indicators are increasing, amid anticipation of the unprecedented fate of this path.
