The Saudi national team achieved an unprecedented achievement in the 2025 Golden Cup, by qualifying for the quarter -finals in its first appearance in the championship, after finishing the group stage in second place behind the United States team.
A decisive draw against Trinidad
As part of the third round of the group stage, the Saudi Green tied with Trinidad and Tobago with a goal for each team, in the match held at the “Alegant” stadium in Las Vegas, USA.
With this tie, Al -Akhdar raised its score to 4 points, behind the United States, which topped the group with 9 points, to reserve the qualification card to the quarter -finals.
The first participation and first achievement
This is the first participation of the Saudi national team in the golden cup, after receiving an official invitation from the CONCACAF Federation, to become the seventh team from outside the continent to qualify for the exclusionary roles, in the history of the championship that started hosting teams from outside North America since the 1996 edition.
A strong journey in the group
The Saudi national team began its career with a convincing victory over Haiti 2-0, before losing difficultly to the United States with a goal without a response, then concluded the group stage in a draw with Trinidad and Tobago, to ensure qualification in light of an organized collective performance and a clear technical balance.
A busy record for guests
By joining the quarter -finals, Al -Akhdar entered the list of guest teams that succeeded in overcoming the group stage, such as Brazil, Colombia, Peru, South Korea, South Africa and Qatar.
On the other hand, the Ecuador team remains the only exception, after bid farewell to the championship from the first round in the 2002 edition.
Saudi ambition in exclusionary roles
The Saudi national team is looking to continue its tournament’s career, and take advantage of high -level friction with CONCACAF teams, as part of a sustainable development plan in preparation for the upcoming entitlements, led by the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
