The Bahrain Institute for Political Development, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, organized yesterday, Sunday, and within the “National Awareness” program, a specialized symposium entitled “Bahrain towards a seat in the Security Council”, at the headquarters of the Institute in Umm Al-Hosam, coinciding with the announcement of the Kingdom of Bahrain to nominate it for permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council (2026-2027), in order to enhance its role as an international partner in establishing security, peace, coexistence, supporting sustainable development goals and service Humanity as a firm approach under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the king of the country.
The symposium was presented by Hatem Abdel Hamid Hatem, head of the organizations sector at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in the presence of a group of officials and those interested in political and international affairs, as the symposium dealt with four main axes that highlighted the strategic and diplomatic dimensions of the Kingdom’s candidacy, and its expected role in this important international forum.
The first axis focuses on the importance of the Security Council and its role in preserving international peace and security, where Mr. Hatem Abdel Hamid explained the nature of the powers of the Council as the main executive body in the United Nations concerned with preventing conflicts and settling international crises, and also provided a detailed explanation of the structure of the council, including permanent and non -permanent members, voting mechanisms, and responsibilities assigned to each member during his membership period.
In the second axis; The symposium reviewed the diplomatic history of the Kingdom of Bahrain at the United Nations, since joining the international organization in 1971, where Mr. Hatem Abdel Hamid referred to a series of positions and achievements that reflected Bahrain’s commitment to international principles, among them its human rights initiatives, standing alongside Arab issues, and adopting an approach based on balance and dialogue in various regional and international files.
As for the third axis, it dealt with the justifications for the nomination of the Kingdom of Bahrain for the membership of the Security Council, where the head of the organizations sector in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted the foundations to which the Kingdom is based in this candidacy, foremost of which is the wise and balanced foreign policy pursued by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the king of the country’s great, and the government’s directions headed And coexistence between peoples, in addition to its regional and international position as an active country in extending bridges of cooperation between different civilizations and cultures.
The symposium concluded by reviewing the priorities of the Kingdom of Bahrain during the candidacy period, or in the event of winning the membership of the council, which is represented in; Enhancing the principles of peaceful coexistence and civilized dialogue between peoples, supporting humanitarian and developmental issues, especially in conflict and crises areas, and promoting maritime and regional security; Due to Bahrain’s geographical location and the importance of international waterways, standing alongside Arab issues, led by the Palestinian issue, and focusing on global issues such as climate change and cybersecurity as challenges that require comprehensive international cooperation.
At the end of the symposium, Mr. Hatem Abdel Hamid stressed that the candidacy of Bahrain comes in the context of a natural entitlement to its escalating role in the international community, and its ability to contribute effectively to the formulation of decisions that contribute to achieving global stability, and to enhance the concepts of justice, peace and sustainable development.
This symposium comes within the “National Awareness” program organized by the Bahrain Institute for Political Development, aimed at spreading culture and political awareness, and explaining the role played by the Kingdom of Bahrain in various regional and international arenas.
