National Human Rights holds a dialogue session on the inclusion of human rights values ​​and principles in political parties’ programs

The National Council for Human Rights, in cooperation with the European Union, held an expanded dialogue meeting with a number of representatives of political parties under the title of including the values ​​and principles of human rights in the programs of political parties, within the framework of strengthening the culture of human rights within the political structure, and supporting the independence of the council by reviewing the law regulating it, with the participation of Dr. Ayman Zuhairi, Dr. Wafaa Binnamin, members of the Council, and Dr. Howaida Adly, a professor of political science.

Mahmoud Karem: It is important to support the proposed amendments to the Council’s law

Ambassador Mahmoud Karem, Acting Speaker of the Council, stressed the importance of the meeting as a platform for constructive consultations between the council and representatives of political parties in a very important time in light of the developments of the political and legislative scene and preparations for the upcoming electoral entitlements.

Karem pointed out that partisan programs should reflect a speech based on the values ​​and legal principles, stressing the role of the Council in supporting this trend by providing objective recommendations to the House of Representatives, especially with regard to the amendments of the Council’s law, stressing the importance of supporting the proposed amendments to the law, which the Council prepared in coordination with the relevant authorities, to ensure its institutional independence and enhance its powers, especially with regard to the mechanisms of follow -up and field control of human rights files.

Dr. Hani Ibrahim, Secretary -General of the Council, stressed that the council works in light of concrete challenges, but it possesses the strengths that enable it to expand the spaces of the positive impact in the human rights file, and pointed out that the council is in the process of preparing an analytical study for political parties’ programs to monitor the extent of its commitment to the human rights approach in its visions and directions, especially with regard to the basic rights of the citizen, explaining that the council is a package of training programs directed to the organizations taking place On permits to monitor elections, with the aim of enhancing human rights understanding among the participants in the follow -up and enabling them to assess the electoral process from a human rights perspective consistent with national and international standards.

This meeting comes within a series of activities that it organizes with the aim of enhancing communication with the active parties in the political scene, and supporting legislative and institutional reform efforts in the field of human rights, as it reflects the council’s keenness with the support of its international partners to consolidate the culture of dialogue and openness and expand the scope of partnership with political parties in a way that enhances the climate of pluralism and serves the path of democratic transformation in Egypt.
